Getting to deep mineral deposits safer and more sustainably
European industry relies on raw materials to deliver the plethora of products society and individuals need and want. As efforts to increase European independence ramp up and easily accessible mines are being depleted, innovative technologies are required to identify and extract resources at greater depths in existing or abandoned mines. The EU-funded PERSEPHONE project intends to address this need with technologies that enable autonomous near-mine exploration while reducing the cost and waste associated with deep mining operations and eliminating human presence in dangerous areas. Technologies will include risk-aware navigation, full digitalisation of the extraction process, online near-mine exploration core analysis and integration of related data analytics to the mine expansion.
